Job Title: Health and Safety Director
Location: National (flexible base with travel as required)
Salary: Circa £90,000 per annum
Reporting to: Executive Board
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent


About the Role

We are working with a respected and well-established national business seeking a Health and Safety Director to join the executive leadership team. This is a pivotal role at board level, responsible for shaping and driving the organisation’s health and safety strategy across a diverse and complex operational landscape.

You will lead on regulatory compliance, risk management, cultural engagement, and strategic safety planning across multiple business units and regional operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company-wide health and safety strategy in alignment with corporate goals

  • Lead and inspire a national H&S team, ensuring clear direction, accountability, and performance standards

  • Act as the senior advisor to the Executive Board on all H&S matters

  • Oversee compliance with current health, safety, and environmental legislation

  • Create a positive and proactive safety culture across all levels of the business

  • Ensure robust risk assessment and incident investigation processes are in place and followed

  • Lead business continuity and crisis management frameworks in partnership with key stakeholders

  • Monitor, audit, and report on H&S performance, recommending improvements as needed

  • Work closely with operational, legal, HR, and property teams to ensure integrated compliance and safety solutions

  • Represent the business externally in relation to regulatory bodies and industry forums


Candidate Requirements

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in health and safety, ideally at Director or Executive Board level

  • Proven track record in a multi-site or national operational business

  • Strong understanding of current UK health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks

  • Experience driving culture change and implementing large-scale H&S initiatives

  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and leadership skills

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (CMIOSH preferred)

  • Ability to travel nationally as required
